Green Party select Yinka Dixon for Drogheda South
The Green party has selected Ms Yinka Dixon to represent them towards a better community development in Drogheda Borough Council in the coming Local Elections. The Party’s Electoral Executive Committee has recently approved and ratified Ms Dixon's nomination. Ms Dixon will represent the party in Drogheda South on 5 June as running mate to Michael McKeon for an effective multicultural integration.
Yinka Dixon has been involved with grassroots community development and adult literacy for several years. She has worked to support sports and facilites for children and their parents, as well as towards integration and interculturalism to promote peace and unity within the community. Yinka is originally from Nigeria and has lived in Drogheda, and in County Louth for a number of years.
Yinka, is a Lecturer/Trainer for City of Dublin VEC, registered to teach in all 32 colleges, Prisons and Youth Reach Centres. She works as a Speaker, and Life and Business Coach. Yinka has played a leading role in multi-cultural integration, and has developed schemes to foster peace and unity along racial, religious, gender and age boundaries. She is the Founder of Christian Friends, Coordinator of the Ebony People's Support Group, Founder of the Network of International Christian Artists and Musicians, and the Coodinator of CAMfest, a peace project to promote young performing artists in Ireland and beyond. Yinka is a Researcher and Presenter for community radio and regularly writes articles for magazines and ezines.
Ms Dixon said: “I was pleased to have been nominated and ratified as a Green Party Local Election candidate. I am happy that the party has been in the forefront of community and global issues for a long time, and have now been proved right. Barack Obama said “the way we use energy has strengthened our enemies and destroyed our planet”. The Green Party has been saying this for years. Additionally, the party's core belief is at the heart of community development, social responsibility justice. I joined them to contribute to the much needed change blowing across our island today.
“My focus is Community Development, Education, Sports and Jobs or Enterprise. It is important that we focus on the needs of our communities. My aim is to support voluntary organisations to develop better, healthier and safer communities. These groups have struggled to support the people in communities with little help from government. I aim to help raise community relevance, promote community involvement, and influence community thinking. I believe that my experience over the years will now be more useful, not just to the party, but also to my community.

Your Vote Is Your Voice - Are You Registered?
I have been speaking with several people during my campaign for elections, and realised that there are so many people who are not registered to vote, and several more don't care.
Louth Greens are reminding voters to check the Register of Electors to make sure they are eligible to vote in 2009. Cllr Mark Dearey explained "This is especially important if you have had problems in the past or have moved house but it is also a habit that you should get into during this time every year to make sure that you are correctly registered. Checking the register is very simple. There are a number of options available including the ereg service on the Louth County Council website at http://www.louthcoco.ie/ereg/
Rachel Pearson of the Louth Green Party explained "You can also check whether you are registered on line by visiting www.checktheregister.ie. Select your county, enter your name and the first line of your address and check if you listed on the register. If you are then you don't need to do anything.
If your details do not appear and are not included at another address you must complete an application form (RFA2) for inclusion in the supplement to the 2009/2010 Register. If you are on the register but have moved address from one Dáil constituency, or local electoral area, to another you must complete an application form (RFA3). Irish versions of these forms are also available for download – (RFA2) or (RFA3).
Completed forms should be returned directly by you to your city or county council and must reach the relevant council before the fourteenth day (Sundays, public holidays and Good Friday excluded) before polling day in order to be considered for inclusion in the supplement for a forthcoming election or referendum.
The final register is published on 1st February and comes into force for a year on 15th February. (from www.checktheregister.ie)
The address for Louth residents is;
Corporate Services,
Louth County Council,
Millennium Hall,
Alphonsus Road,
Dundalk,
Co. Louth.
If you have any questions you can contact Louth County Council on 042 9335457."
If you don't register to vote, you cannot vote. And if you don't vote, you have lost one of your basic rights - Your Right To Vote! And without your vote, your choice of a leader will not be taken into consideration. And if your voice is not heard, someone you did not elect will represent you, and make choices you do not necessarily like. All you can do then, is exercise your right to complain... (A bit like medicine after death, if you ask me).
To make good use of your vote, register to vote TODAY!!!
